Community Development

The Community Development Department consists of two divisions - Building and Planning.

Building Division

The Building Division's primary responsibility is the enforcement of the adopted building codes. The Division also provides the following tasks to ensure compliance with State and local standards for livability and the integrity of the community and surrounding area:

  • Code enforcement
  • Inspections
  • Permit processing
  • Quality customer service
  • Technical information

Code Enforcement

The Code Enforcement Officer handles property maintenance concerns for both residential and commercial properties and administers the City's rental licensing program.

Planning Division

The Planning Division provides guidance for the growth and long-term stability of the community and surrounding areas through the preservation of natural and historic resources and the built environment for an enhanced quality of life. The Division also implements and enforces the City's zoning ordinance and long-range planning documents including the Comprehensive Plan, Park Master Plan, and Trailway Plan. Planning staff provides support to the Planning Commission, Advisory Committee on Historic Preservation, and the City Council.
