The Highway 61 Hockey Academy's mission is to develop well balanced hockey players into stronger skaters, smarter players, and poised individuals through improved athleticism both on and off the ice.  Participants should be self-disciplined and appreciate the rewards of hard work.

Players diligent in following the program regimen will assuredly see improvement as a hockey player, athlete and individual.  All players must be able to skate independently.

61 Time Table

On Ice Skill Development

Small focus groups on the North Rink will concentrate on skating, stick handling, passing, shooting and scoring.  Instructors will emphasize players understand individual puck possession, player movement away from the puck to create offensive plays and learn how to get the puck back as quickly as possible.

Those sessions utilizing the South Rink will be playing in competitive tournaments, 3 on 3 smart game plays, and other small area games which require faster thinking on a smaller rink.

Off Ice Training

Hockey players will learn to focus on strength, speed, agility and plyometric movements while emphasizing development and safety.  Off Ice Training will also consist of fun team games that encourage mental processing and quick decision making.

Professional Goalie Instructor, Josh Colvin, will lead dedicated goalies each session on modern goalie specific fundamentals to build skills and confidence.

Goalies MUST register separate from skaters each session and may spend both hours of the session on ice.

Each day, we will make sure skaters are down to their lockerroom and ready to hit the ice on time (and yes, we can help them with gear).  Kids should dress appropriately for activities including crafts, running, jumping, and playing at the playground; this includes wearing tennis shoes.

Kids must bring their own lunch, snacks, beverages, and utensils.   Please notify staff of any dietary restrictions or health-related concerns.  Avoid sending food that contain nuts due to allergies; this includes sunflower seeds.   If your child does not come with a lunch, we will attempt to contact you to bring one; otherwise, we will provide one and a $8 lunch fee will be applied to your account.
