Dodge Nature Center was presented the 2018 Historic Preservationist of the Year by the City of Cottage Grove’s City Council and Advisory Committee on Historic Preservation at the May 2 council meeting.

Jason Sanders, executive director, accepted the award on behalf of the organization.

The Mayor and City Council recognized the staff and board of directors of Dodge Nature Center for their previous and continuing efforts to document, preserve, and share the interesting history of Shepard Farm with the public, and to establish an adaptive reuse of the property as an environmental/agricultural education center.  In 2017, Dodge Nature Center placed the Shepard Farm property on the City's local register of historic sites and landmarks as an historic district.

May is Historic Preservation Month. In recognition of that, every year the Cottage Grove Advisory Committee on Historic Preservation recognizes an individual or organization as the Historic Preservationist of the Year.
