2018 Capture Cottage Grove Photo Contest

 Show us your best shot! From people and places to celebrations and locations, you are invited to capture the best of Cottage Grove and submit your pictures in the photo contest.   Even if you do not win you may see your photo in print!

Contest Rules

  • Photos must be taken within Cottage Grove city limits.
  • Photo entries containing recognizable people at non-public events must be accompanied by a signed release form.
  • One entry per category per photographer.
  • Previously entered photos will not be judged.
  • Submitted entries must be photographer's work.
  • Entries may be digital or color or black-and-white prints
  • Digital photographs should be submitted in a TIF or JPG format (high quality).
  • Print photographs should be at least 5” by 7”.
  • Minor digital enhancements allowed, but images that have been significantly modified or appear unnatural will not be judged.

  • Submit photographs by 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 28, 2018.
  • Submit a separate online entry or mail-in/drop-off entry form for each photo submitted
  • Submissions become the property of the City of Cottage Grove and will not be returned
  • Entries may be digital or color or black-and-white prints

  • Winners will be announced at a City Council meeting in January 2018
  • Winning photographer in each category will receive $50 and certificate from the City Council
  • Winning photos will be featured in the various city publications, on the city’s website and social media accounts

Winners of the 2017 Capture Cottage Grove photo contest were announced at the Feb. 7, 2018 City Council meeting. This year's contest had 60 entries.

  • Timothy Dardine won in the nature category for his photo titled “The Perfect November Morning.”  He took the photo in Old Cottage Grove, looking east towards Highway 95.
  • Bill Pohlmann won in the celebrations and events category for “Fire and Rain,” taken at Strawberry Fest.   
  • In the parks and trails category, there was a tie.  Bill Pohlmann won for his photo “Morning at Mooers,” a vibrant sunrise picture at Hazen P. Mooers Park.  Peter Potyondy won for his photo “Discovery,” featuring a small child playing with rocks and shells as a thunderstorm moves into Cedarhurst Meadows Park.
  • Nathan Klok won in the people category.  His photo was taken at the Cottage Grove Ice Arena at the beginning of a high school hockey game.
  • Kevin Gallagher won in the streetscapes category for his photo titled “Beautiful Sunrise in Cottage Grove.”  His stunning photo was taken at the roundabout at Highway 61 South and Jamaica Avenue.
  • A picture of anew puppy called “Puppy Fluffy", won in the Youth category.

The top photographers were awarded $50 for each winning photograph.
