Dear Cottage Grove Residents,
We are in the middle of some trying times. Your concerns regarding COVID-19 are real and valid, the caution you’ve exhibited should be commended, and the compassion you’ve shown in caring for your loved ones, friends and neighbors is something we are collectively proud of as a community. While we remain “socially distant”, we also want to remain compassionate toward our most vulnerable. The health implications of this virus are particularly worrisome for our senior and at-risk populations.
The Cottage Grove Police and Fire Departments want to make sure our seniors and at-risk community members not only have someone to check in on them, but we want to ensure they receive assistance if needed. Perhaps you don’t live near Cottage Grove, but your friend, relative and/or loved one resides in our City.
We’ve set up a system where an officer or firefighter can periodically check in on a senior or at-risk member of our community upon request. If you, or someone you know, needs someone to check-in on them in this trying time, please contact our public safety team by filling out the form found at www.cottagegrovemn.gov/covid19welfarecheckform. If you don’t have immediate access to the internet, we’ll take your calls and requests at 651-458-2850.
We are all in this fight together and no one is alone in our community!
This is also an appropriate time to ask you to take care of your neighbors. Anyone living on your block who might be living alone? Maybe they require a little help? This is an important time for us to check-in on each other (maintaining social distance), and if you require any help, please don’t hesitate to contact your public safety providers. We’re here to serve you!
Cottage Grove Public Safety Director Pete Koerner
