Emerald Ash Borer

Emerald Ash Borer Information
The City of Cottage Grove has been preparing for the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) infestation since 2010. The City has a 12-year EAB management plan. In accordance with this plan, we continue an aggressive voluntary boulevard ash removal and replacement program. We also continue to provide protection of the city's ash with insecticide injections to prevent against the infestation of EAB.

In 2018, EAB was confirmed by the Minnesota Dept. of Agriculture to be present in the City of Cottage Grove.
The City has a voluntary boulevard Emerald Ash tree program where residents can sign up to have their boulevard ash tree taken down and replaced with a different tree species at no cost to the resident.

Emerald Ash Borer Prevention

The City of Cottage Grove has negotiated a city-wide discounted price with Rainbow Treecare Company to serve as a vendor partner in treating private ash trees for EAB. These injections will protect against EAB for two years. Pricing is an agreed-upon cost per Diameter Inch at Breast Height (DBH) in the tree care industry. For 2019, the negotiated price to residents is $5.82/inch at DBH.  Go to Rainbow Treecare Company for more information.

Should you suspect EAB infestation of your ash trees, you are encouraged to contact City Staff and or Rainbow Treecare to review the ash tree.

Residents are also welcome to contact their own contractors to treat or remove trees. The city does not guarantee or warranty Rainbow Treecare’s work.  The City considers them a company that is qualified to perform this service, but each property owner undertakes a private contract with the vendor and the city will not warrant, insure or otherwise indemnify the homeowner for their work or any damage as a result of their work.
