Police Respond to Domestic Situation
SWAT assists with search
On March 12, 2018 at 4:23 a.m., Cottage Grove Police received a call to 8287 Jody Lane South,
on a domestic situation where the suspect had made verbal threats of violence while
brandishing a handgun. The residents were able to leave the home while Officers were on
scene. At the time of the call, it was unknown if the suspect was still inside the residence.
A search warrant was obtained for the residence and Washington County SWAT was requested
to assist with the resolution of the incident and replace the duty Officers, who were initially on
the scene.
Negotiators made several attempts to contact the suspect who refused to answer his phone or
have contact with us. Members of Washington County SWAT entered the residence to find the
suspect had left prior to the Officers’ original arrival.
The Cottage Grove Police Department is still actively investigating this incident. The suspect is
known to the residents. Investigative reports will be forwarded to the Washington County
Attorney’s Office for review of appropriate criminal charges.
During the event, residents in the immediate area were notified via Code Red that police
activity was occurring in the area and to shelter in place. After clearing the residence, another
Code Red message was sent out to residents that the shelter in place had been lifted, and the
police department was clearing the area.
