Cottage Grove Achieves GreenStep Level 3 Status

Cottage Grove, MN – June 20, 2017 – The City of Cottage Grove was recognized Thursday, June 15 by the Minnesota GreenStep Cities program for its achievements in environmental sustainability. Cottage Grove recently completed the best practices needed for Step 3 status. The city was commended for its efforts at the League of Minnesota Cities Annual Conference.

The GreenStep Cities program is a voluntary program administered by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, which recognizes cities for implementing sustainable practices in the community.

There are 29 best practices that cities can complete to achieve recognition at steps 1 through 5.  These include items such as green purchasing policies, sustainable building practices, recycling, and energy usage monitoring.

Currently, there are 113 cities or tribal nations in the GreenStep program, with only 25 cities at step 3, and 11 cities at steps 4 and 5. The City achieved Step 2 status on June 20, 2013.
