Cottage Grove City Council Recognizes Citizen for Life-Saving Action
Cottage Grove, Minn. – June 7, 2018 – The Cottage Grove City Council presented a Citizen Life-Saving Award to Jim Huber at their June 6, meeting. He was recognized for the significant part he played in the life saving efforts of a woman who was pinned underneath a vehicle.

On March 15, 2018, Cottage Grove Public Safety was dispatched to a residence on a report that a vehicle was pinned on top of a woman. Huber, a neighbor, stepped forward and took immediate action by bringing a hydraulic jack to the scene. He was able to jack up the vehicle while officers extracted her from under the vehicle and began CPR while awaiting arrival of an ambulance.

"There are a lot of people who either run away from something happening, or panic, or who don't know what to do”, said Mayor Bailey before presenting the award to Huber. “On behalf of the Council and the rest of the citizens, thank you for stepping in and saving someone's life."

The Citizen Life-Saving Award is awarded to a member of the community for performing life-saving acts without the presence of an unusual hazard or risk of injury to the community member. The responding officers from the incident nominated Mr. Huber for the award.
